The Perfect Grade (PG) RX-78-2 Gundam (Chrome Metallic Ver.) is a 1/60 scale kit released in 2002, as an event exclusive kit.

Kit Features & Gimmicks

Articulation

• The head can rotate/tilt on a double-sided ball-joint neck.
• The arms can swing and/or raise horizontally on each part.
• The upper arms can rotate.
• Both the elbow and knees are double-jointed.
• The manipulators...
  • Feature fully articulated fingers on each hand.
  • Can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
• The upper thigh joints can swing frontwards/backwards on a peg-and-socket joint, raise horizontally and/or rotate 45 degrees on each thigh.
  • Front, side, and rear skirt armors can pivot to avoid interference.
• The ankles can pivot and/or tilt sideways (in a limited extent).
• The front foot parts can pivot.

Weapons/Other Gimmicks

• Head unit can light up.
• Any of the weapons can be wielded by the poseable hands.
  • For better gripping stability, Each weapon feature a flip-out tabs for the palms' hardpoints.
• Core Fighter can convert into Core Block to dock with the Gundam.
  • A non-converting Core Block frame can be used as an alternative if one prefers to display the Core Fighter individually.
• Head, Arms, Thighs, Shoulders, body hatches, and the yellow pieces on the skirt armor can be opened to reveal inner frame.
• Beam Saber hilts feature flip-out tabs for gripping stability.
• Beam Rifle can attach on or remove from the rear waist armor.
• Beam Rifle's muzzle-to-upper-stock can be folded down to reveal mechanical details.

Tips & Tricks

• RX-78-2 Gundam Custom Sets 1 & 2 can be used for this kit.
• Due to the parts being coated along with the runner (and combined with a lack of undergates), cutting the pieces off from the sprues may leave some marks, even if some care is taken.
  • Likewise, some parts' tabs/notches can be in a tight fit while assembling, so some scraping is needed.
  • And due to it's chromed nature, it's better to left the Gunpla untouched after you finished building it unless you're wearing gloves.

Availability

This Gunpla can be purchased at the JAF-CON IX (9) event, which was held at July 30, 2000. The Gunpla is also later re-issued at March 2017 by Bandai Asia & Australia.
