Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン Shinseiki Evangerion?) is a Japanese mecha anime franchise that started with the television series produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production, directed by Hideaki Anno and broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996. Since then, the franchise has expanded to other media, including books, films, and video games.
In 1997, Bandai started the Perfect Grade line with the protagonist unit, Evangelion Unit-01, as opposed to a mech from the Gundam franchise. Since then, Bandai released more model kits from the franchise across several lineups.
