The Master Grade (MG) MS-05B Zaku I (Black Tri-Stars) is a 1/100 scale kit released in 1999.

Kit Features & Gimmicks[]

Articulation[]

  • The head can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
    • Mono-eye can move left or right via a switch on the rear head.
  • The arms can...
    • Swing on a peg-and-socket joint.
    • Raise horizontally.
  • The upper arms can rotate.
  • Both the elbows and knees can only be bent up to 90 degrees.
  • The manipulators can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
    • The poseable manipulators feature 3+1+1 articulation on each finger.
  • The upper thighs can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
    • Front and side skirt armors can pivot (in an extent) to avoid interference.
  • The ankles can swivel, and/or pivot/tilt in an extent.

Weapons/Other Gimmicks[]

  • Cockpit hatch can be opened to reveal a pilot figurine.
  • The hands are swappable.
  • Any of the weapons can be wielded by the poseable hands only.
  • The Heat Hawk can mount onto the left waist armor for storage.
  • The Bazooka can mount onto the rear waist armor via a flip-out rack.
  • The middle head panel and the front leg panel can be opened.

Tips & Tricks[]

  • For better results, some or most of the details are needed to be applied and panel-lined with Gundam Markers and/or Mr. Color paints.
  • Topcoat (Mr. Hobby recommended) can be used to protect applied decals.
    • If using matte/flat-finish top coat, it is advisable not to spray on the clear/translucent parts - can be done by masking or spraying top coat while the said parts are separated.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The 1/20 scale Gaia figurine is referred to as "Pilot guyya".
  • While the front box and instruction manual refers to the MS as a "Mass Produced Mobile Suit", the correct term for this MS is "Black Tri-Stars Customize Mobile Suit".
