The High Grade IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS (HGI-BO) ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is a 1/144 scale kit released in 2015.

Kit Features & Gimmicks[]

Articulation[]

  • The head can swivel/tilt on a double-sided ball-joint neck.
  • The torso can pivot.
  • Shoulder joints can raise upwards.
  • The arms can...
    • Swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
    • Raise horizontally. (The shoulder armors can lift upwards to avoid interference with the arm articulation.)
  • The upper arms can rotate.
  • Elbow joints can be bent up to 120 degrees.
  • The manipulators can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint.
  • The waist can rotate 360 degrees.
  • The hip joint axis can swing frontward/backwards on one side.
  • The upper thigh joints can swing frontwards (and backwards in some extent) on a peg, raise horizontally and/or rotate on each thigh.
    • Front, and side skirt armors can pivot to provide clearance for the leg articulation.
  • The knees are double-jointed.
  • The ankle can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint, and/or tilt sideways.
  • The front feet can pivot.

Weapons/Other Gimmicks[]

  • Any of the weapons can be wielded by the default hands.
  • The left arm can be swapped with an alternate piece to create Gundam Barbatos 1st form.
  • Backpack sub-arms can be deployed via parts swapping.
  • Mace & Long Sword can attach onto the backpack sub-arms with their respective adapters.
  • A pair of Shoulder Armors from the HG Graze can be attached to the Shoulder joints.
  • Gundam Barbatos can mount onto any Action Bases. (sold separately)

Tips & Tricks[]

  • For better results, some or most of the details are needed to be applied with Gundam Markers or Mr. Color paints.
  • Topcoat (Mr. Hobby recommended) can be used to protect applied stickers and if any, marking decals and painted details.
  • The Smoothbore Cannon from the HGI-BA Mobile Suit Option Set 1 can be used on this Gunpla.
  • The wire hook from the HG McGillis' Schwalbe Graze can be attached to the 1st form's left arm. (removal of the gauntlet & elbow guard is needed)

Customizing-based Tips[]

  • The frame can be replaced with the Gundam Frame 4 from the HG Gundam Barbatos 6th Form (or any of its variants) for easier shoulder frame removal and a stable foot swivel. (The polycap on the front foot is needed to be replaced)
  • The open hands from the Mobile Suit Option Set 7 can be used for this kit. (The dorsals must be swapped.)
  • The cross-compatible back adapter from the HGGBB ASW-G-08-4X4 Gundam Barbataurus can be used on this Gunpla.

Variants[]

Italicized item/s are exclusives.

Reissues of the kit from September 2018 onward will feature a blue-colored Bandai Spirits logo. Later reprints from mid-2022 will also feature an additional Bandai Namco logo. Reprints from 2021 onwards will feature the modified front box that features the international Iron-Blooded Orphans logo with the pilot character art removed.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • This Gunpla is the only Gundam Barbatos kit to come with the original Long Sword before its hilt was modified, as it was only used once during Tekkadan's first encounter and fight with the Brewers in the end of the 10th (A Letter from Tomorrow) and the first quarter of the 11th (Human Debris) episode.
